Speaker 1:

Hey everyone, this is Noor and you're listening to the Curated by Noor podcast, so this episode is my edited morning routine. I had done the Truth About the 5am Club episode I think it was almost one year ago now and I need to edit it because a lot has changed since and I think it's really important to share it with you guys. So in my previous episode how to be the girl, part two I shared with you guys something called the morning pages, without Julia Cameroon. Julia Cameroon, she's an author. She wrote a book called the artist's way, okay, and so part of my morning routine now has become actually writing my morning pages. This is something that I never used to do, but it's what I do in the morning to start, and it's really a life changer, but not for the reasons you would think I do not look at my phone for a good 30 minutes, maybe an hour, if I can, when I first wake up. I try to wake up around 6 am it's not really 5 anymore. I think that's a bit unrealistic. And then I also try to make sure that I don't drink coffee for an hour and 20 minutes, which is something Andrew Hugh Berman talks about a lot, which is not to hack your adrenaline system with coffee when you first get up.

Speaker 1:

One of the most important things that I added to the morning routine is a walk. I think, if you can, it would be really cool to try to take a walk, even if it's like literally 500 meters around the block, around wherever Yanni, around where you're living, yanni. I think it just is a lot less pressure than doing a 7am workout or an 8am workout. If you're in a city like Dubai, for example, you can really get to a 6.30am workout class and that's easy. But in Cairo we don't really have many group 6.30am workout classes. It's a different culture, so you have to be very aware of where you are. In different cities London, I think you can even get a 5am. I don't know like some cities are like that. But right here, where I am now, which is Cairo, I feel like the better thing to do is to start off with some sort of a walk and then maybe you can get into a workout.

Speaker 1:

One of the things that I really like doing as well is not reading in the morning, but reading later in the day. I find that if you read in the morning, it really you get into a very slower pace. You don't need to start off being so grounded. I like to get the day going. If I'm filming anything for the podcast, for example, I like to make sure that I have a very light breakfast, very light. I can have a coffee, something like that, but that's it If I'm not filming. If I'm teaching Pilates, then I like to make sure that I can eat something. You know you have to have the energy to teach and make sure that that is something that you can do and you can actually deliver the appropriate amount of energy.

Speaker 1:

Another thing I changed from the last time, I really think, is that I decided that I don't want to have the longest morning routine, but I do want to prioritize having a slow morning. There are a lot of people who like the 5-5-5 split or something like that, where you get up and you work out and you're in a very fast, very attack the day mentality and I realized actually, no, I don't like that. I prefer, you know, to have a very slow paced morning and the day gets faster and builds as it goes. I think, honestlyaha for me, that's a lot better. I feel like today, I build up energy and then you can ground at the end of the day. So those are my main things that I changed for my morning routine.

Speaker 1:

5 am club episode. That I did. That I was very excited about guys, and it didn't last long, let me tell you, because it's a really, really difficult one to maintain when I live in Cairo again, depends on the city. When I'm in Dubai, it's easier. So the evening routine is something that I'll get into now as well, which is, I think, for me, not as important to keep consistent. A lot of people talk about how big do you need to have the same evening routine.

Speaker 1:

I think the most important thing, honestly, is to get to bed as early as you can, but I unfortunately I'm not that type of person that is able to sleep early, so I try to get there as early as I can. I try to read a little bit. I try to allow myself the liberty of watching a little bit of YouTube, a little bit of podcasts, tv, netflix, whatever it is. I don't believe in being rigid or strict anymore. This is something that I fell into as a trap as far as how I'm listening to so many podcasts, so many TikToks, so many whatever. And now I say to them okay, everything has to be like structured, you know, for every single day, I need to do X, y, z as a Libra, as a manifesting generator, whatever it is in human design. As someone who likes a lot of change, this did not work for me. I felt like, honestly, I need a little bit of flexibility.

Speaker 1:

Another thing I like to do, actually and I have it next to me is my gratitude journaling, which this sounds so funny and woo-woo, and when I heard this a couple of years ago, I was like, oh my God, what are you on about? But basically, you just write down three things you're grateful for beginning and end of the day. This is a very nice one. We're actually going to produce one for you guys, and I just think this helps you put things into perspective.

Speaker 1:

I think, if you work, especially in a creative industry like mine, where you have to deal with a lot of different people, the days are not same. It's not a nine to five, which is the thing I love the most. You get to meet people, you get to go to different locations. It's just so diverse, even if you are in a nine to five. Honestly, no shade on that. I think it's a brilliant, brilliant way to actually build a career, but I think it's important to sit down and actually just, even in your notes app in your phone, write down three things you're grateful for beginning and end of the day. If not both, then either beginning or end.

Speaker 1:

This is something that I love to do as part of the routine, and I think one last thing I'll mention because we just did an episode with Reem Hassan from Matter, which is an amazing matcha concept in Cairo is that I stopped having three coffees a day, which is not a morning or night routine, guys, it's just a tip from an entrepreneur, from me to you. I think it's so aggressive on your system to have three coffees a day. Instead, I opt for a coffee and a matcha and something else, and I think this really helps you balance any, which is a diamond on an adrenaline rush 24 7. Sometimes the day needs it. Sometimes you need that caffeine kick. That's fine, but ultimately I think it's really important to just especially in your late 20s earlys figure out a way to like hack that in a different way, and you can listen to Reem's episode for that.

Speaker 1:

So that's my morning and evening routine edited. I hope you guys enjoyed it.
